About the Artist
My first exposure to metalsmithing was at a fine arts summer camp when I was 12. Surrounded by beautiful trees and the Long Island Sound, nature was the inspiration for my projects. I was also very fortunate to attend a high school that actually had a fully equipped metalsmithing studio, (very unusual in a public school), where I continued to pursue my interest in working with metal to create original art in the form of jewelry.
I studied Fine Arts with a concentration in metalsmithing/jewelry design at Carnegie Mellon University. There I learned to hone my skills and express my creative energy through metal.
Whether planting in my garden, snorkeling in the ocean, birding with my son, or taking a hike through the woods, I have always felt at peace when out in nature. So when I am sitting at my bench thinking of what to create next, my mind always goes toward images of textures and patterns in leaves, flowers, feathers, berries, tree bark, or the amazing patterns on fish. Almost all of my work has an organic feel.
I work mostly in sterling silver, gold, bronze, copper and brass, frequently using a combination of metals to take advantage of the different colors. I incorporate gem stones and other materials in many of my pieces. When I am at my bench, all of life’s stresses melt away as I focus only on the project at hand. I love my work, and I hope you can see that in the beautiful metals and stones I use, and the unique pieces I create with them.

In addition to what you see here, I do commission work, so if there is something you want me to design just for you or for a gift, I can do that too. Just email me at deermountain@optonline.net, send me a message using the form below, or give me a call at 516-317-0259.
